Fishing Tackle
Fishing tackle is the term that refers to equipment, which is used by anglers while fishing. It is also referred to as fishing gear. Any equipment which is used while fishing is called fishing tackle. It includes lures, bait, line, rods, harpoon, floats and traps.
Types of Fishing tackle
Fishing Tackle is needed to get one's bait and lure to the fish. One doesn't need lots of equipment for fishing; it is always a good idea to start with basic tackle. There are various types of fishing tackle:
- Pole and Line- The most basic fishing tackle is a pole, however some people even use a soda can, which is wrapped around the fishing line as a pole. This pole can be made from wood, bamboo or even a piece of tree branch. One does not need the reel with this pole. It is made by cutting the fishing line as long as pole, then tying one tip of the line to the pole, while to the other end, a hook is tied. The sinker is squeezed onto the line above the hook, which makes it easier to swing the bait into the water and keeping it there.
- Rods and Reels-Another type of fishing tackle uses lots of reels to store large amount of line. This reel helps in casting the bait further. Also it helps in retrieving lure correctly, fishing in deeper water and battling larger fish easily. There are four types of reels:
o spin casting
o spinning
o bait cast
o fly
Each uses different types of rod.
- Saltwater tackle - Require special type of tackle because saltwater will corrode any aluminum, steel or iron part. Saltwater tackle ranges from ultra light equipment for inshore fishing to large tackle for deep sea fishing.
- Ice fishing- In Ice fishing, one to three foot rods are used. Simple reels are used to hold the fishing line. Ice fishing can also be done with tip ups. These tip ups fit over the hole in the ice, so that as the fish hits, it releases a lever.
